We're delighted to report that Four Corners artist Emma McGowan has been shortlisted for the Make it in Design/Printsource competition, with the prize of a booth at Printsource in August up for grabs.

"We were asked to select a market and a dream client, and then design two mini collections with those target buyers and customers in mind," explains Emma. "I picked the stationery and greetings markets because I'd love to see my designs on notebooks and giftwrap."

All the entries were judged by surface designer, Rachael Taylor, and Printsource producer, Massimo Iacoboni. Here are Emma's two designs that grabbed their attention.

"I wanted to create a Christmas range that felt a bit different from the traditional red and green. My Angel Geo collection taps into the trend for metallics and a Nordic palette of soft pinks and blues, while still having a bit of punch with the brighter pinks and dark charcoal. I love the combination of crisp geometrics with the hand drawn angels and baubles. I think this collection would appeal to adults and kids, and could extend across a range of wrapping paper, cards, tags and gift bags, as well as decorations and baubles."

"For my second collection, I was inspired by the coming trend for vintage embroidery. I looked at vintage samplers and 1970s colour palettes to come up with a collection that evokes that 70s look but feels fresh and contemporary. There are more prints and co-ordinates in the collection, which could extend across notebooks, desk organisers, files and storage, as well as wrapping paper, tags and gift bags."

The winner will be announced on January 26th. Have a look at all eight finalists on the Make it in Design website.

Both collections are available for license. Please contact Emma for more information.
